GOLDIE CANDELA of JIGGLEWATTS BURLESQUE & CABARET

WINNER OF FIRST ANNUAL SPARKLY DEVIL

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCED

March 28– Las Vegas, NV – The Burlesque Hall of Fame (BHoF) is pleased to announce the inaugural winner of the Sparkly Devil Memorial Scholarship: Goldie Candela, of Austin, TX. In addition to a full event pass (including hotel) for the 57th annual all-star reunion and showcase, Candela will have full access to all Master Classes and one-on-one time with our “vintage vixens,” the living legends of burlesque’s heyday. Candela will also have the honor of serving as an escort for one legend during the entire weekend.

“As a member of the Jigglewatts Burlesque Revue, my performance style has been influenced by many elements of the ‘classic’ age of burlesque,” said Candela. “I am thrilled to be able to learn more about burlesque history directly from these inspiring legends.”

The scholarship was created to honor the memory of Sparkly Devil (Sarah Klein), a San Francisco-based performer and journalist who dedicated herself to building bridges between burlesque legends and newer generations of performers. Sparkly Devil created the Legends Challenge in 2011 to assist the Burlesque Hall of Fame Museum with overall expenses associated with bringing legends to the BHoF Weekender. The community was devastated when Sparkly Devil was killed in an accident in 2013, just days prior to the Weekender her program supports.

“Goldie Candela was chosen by our committee because she continues Sparkly Devil’s commitment to serving the burlesque community and to celebrating our history through and with our living legends.”

The 2014 BHoF Weekender takes place June 5-8 at The Orleans Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas. Among the legends scheduled to appear and/or teach this year are:

April March, Dee Milo, Ellion Ness, Gabriella Maze; Gail Winns, Holiday O’Hara, Holly Carroll, Julie Mist, Lovey Goldmine, Marinka, Penny Starr Sr., Shannon Doah, Toni Elling, Val Valentine, Bic Carroll, Big Fannie Annie, Ezi Rider, Gina Bon Bon, Gypsy Louise, Isis Starr, Judith Stein, Suzette Monique, Tai Ping and Viva La Fever.

Additional information about the full weekend program is available at www.bhofweekend.com.
