PLAYING TEXAS HOLD 'EM
IN TEN EASY STEPS

THE OBJECT OF THE GAME: is to have the best possible 5-card hand, made with any combination of the two cards that you are dealt ("hole cards") and the five cards on the table ("community cards").

Everyone starts the tournament with the same amount of chips. The winner is the last person remaining at the table when everyone else loses all their chips.

1. Before every hand, there is a "small blind" and a "big blind", an ante which rotates clockwise around the table. The player to the left of the "button" (usually a small white chip on the table) puts in the small blind, the player to her left puts in the big blind.

2. The hand begins when each player is dealt 2 cards face down -- These are your "hole cards", which only you can use. These cards are top secret! Do not show the cards to anyone until the dealer tells you to -- even if you fold.

3. First round of betting: you can either match the big blind ("call"), add money to the pot ("raise"), or drop out of the hand ("fold"). In no-limit Texas Hold-em, you can bet any amount at any time. The player to the left of the big blind acts first, and play continues clockwise around the table. TIP: Say what you're doing when you bet, check, or fold. If it's against the rules, the dealer will tell you.

IF YOU FOLD: Give your cards to the dealer, face down. Do not show your cards to anyone or say what they are out loud.

4. The dealer deals three cards face up ("the flop"). These and all future cards dealt are the community cards.

5. Second round of betting. The player who put in the small blind is the first to act. Until someone makes a bet, you have the option to either bet or not bet ("check"), or bet. If someone before you bets, you can either match her bet ("call"), raise, or fold. If you raise, it can be any amount from double the initial bet to all your chips (say "all-in"). TIP: If everyone before you has passed, don't fold (even if you think you have a bad hand). It doesn"t cost you any money to stay in.

6. The dealer deals a fourth card face up ("the turn").

7. Third round of betting, same rules as second round of betting.

8. The dealer deals a final card face up ("the river").

9. Final round of betting, same rules as previous two rounds.

10. At the end of the final round of betting, the dealer will tell the remaining players to show their cards. The dealer will determine and announce who has won and award the pot.

TIP: The dealer is your friend! Do not be afraid to ask her questions about how the game is played. (No advice, but anything else.)

WHEN YOU HAVE NO CHIPS LEFT: You lose. Leave the table dramatically. We are showbiz folk, after all.

IF YOU WANT TO QUIT THE GAME BUT STILL HAVE CHIPS: Go all-in and hope for the worst. In a tournament, no chips can be taken from the table. You must play until you lose (or win).

IF YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON LEFT AND HAVE ALL THE CHIPS ON THE TABLE: You win! Collect your prize, tip the dealer, and claim the coverted Exotic World Texas Tease 'Em Winner's Garter

TIP: Although banter with other players in encouraged, DO NOT ABUSE THE DEALER. This can lead to very bad things... for you. Did you ever see Casino? Seriously, this is Vegas. They do that stuff.
