#MuseumAtHome: Happy Birthday to “Miss Exotic World” Creator Dixie Evans

Burlesque dancer Dixie Evans performs

Dixie Evans, “The Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque,” would have been 94 today. After a successful career as a burlesque dancer, Dixie eventually ended up running the Exotic World museum, creating the Miss Exotic World pageant that to this day forms the core of our BHoF Weekender, going on right now as our first Virtual Weekender (nicknamed “VHoF”) – visit BHoFWeekend.com for tickets and information.

Learn more about her in this video, created by our Collections and Interpretation Coordinator, Emmie Pappa Eddy. For more fun, download the Dixie Evans coloring pages (or the one-page mini-zine) linked to below, also created by Emmie.

If you’d like to learn more about Dixie, read her biography written for us by Dr. Lucky on the occasion of Dixie’s passing in 2013.

Virtual Weekender passholders can celebrate Dixie’s life and legacy even more with exclusive material posted to the VHoF livestream, including a 1997 interview with Dixie on Extra! featuring a tour of the museum in Helendale by Dixie herself. VHoF ends soon, so visit BHoFWeekend.com and get your passes now.
